What is it with all these floods everywhere around the world? I’ve been lucky enough to work in all of the recently affected countries and it’s dreadful to watch these disasters affecting so many people. There’s been a lot of coverage on the UK news channels about the floods in Australia – and quite rightly, as they’ve been severe and awful. There has also been major flooding in Sri Lanka this week and Brazil last week. In Brazil over 50,000 people have been displaced from their homes and 600 have died. In Sri Lanka 32 people have died already and 300,000 forced to leave their homes. Flooding has alse affected The Philippines badly. With the exception of Brazil this is all caused the the La Ni?a weather phenomenon. Of course there were further floods in Pakistan last summer and in Bangladesh not very long ago. It seems that Australia’s floods have been the most severe, but has affected the fewest people – a sign of a caring government with a good budget I suspect. Maybe the rain in the UK isn’t so bad after all.
