As principal consultant, recruitment has always played a part in the work Rob has done, but his epiphany moment came during an eight year stint at ConsultingTools. He recognised very clearly that success in business growth is all about finding the right people – and that he was good at doing just that. As Commercial Director he built their international network from a single partner based in Denmark, who represented 1% of the total business turnover, to 35 partners worldwide making up more than 50% and growing..
Rob then set up as a freelance consultant and was immediately nabbed by The Gap Partnership to support their international expansion. Tasked with finding, on-boarding, training and managing delivery partners in six countries/regions/languages where they didn’t have capacity, Rob secured partners who delivered an exponential rise in turnover in their first year alone. He prefers to work in-house with his clients to become a true part of their team, working on their behalf in a number of specialist recruitment and consultancy roles.
Recruitment is more than just putting a few candidates forward. It’s about understanding the requirements intimately, knowing how to translate that into engaging, aspirational job adverts that reach and appeal to the right people. It’s about finding people, sure, but it’s also getting them excited about the role and its possibilities, giving them training and advice, and ultimately, securing the right person for a client’s business. We like the challenge of less uniform opportunities and our ways of working means we are good at finding the right people for these roles. The breadth of our business experience means we can help you in any number of ways, from HR and L&D resource to management consultancy and international growth strategy.
Steed Business Services is based in Cambridge, UK, but works with clients around the world. We believe passionately in taking an honest, straightforward approach to recruitment that involves knowing how to sell a position just as much as understanding what makes a particular candidate right for the job. Our fee structure is designed to guarantee impartiality; in other words, we care more that the right person ends up in the role than about taking credit for them.
